More customization with new Steenwijkerland minimum income policy

Starting January 1, 2022, new regulations will be in place for residents with low incomes. These regulations are part of the municipality's updated minimum income policy.

Alderman Trijn Jongman: "We want to be able to help residents who are struggling financially and are at risk of getting into financial difficulties quickly and effectively. The type of assistance needed varies depending on the situation. That's why we want to offer customized solutions. Our updated minimum income policy offers a variety of tools for this."

The new regulations can be found on the municipal website www.steenwijkerland.nl/jeugdzorgenwerk  and can be applied for from January 1, 2022.

New to the minimum income policy is the Adult Fund , which replaces the previous "socio-cultural activities" scheme. The fund offers residents aged 18 and over the opportunity to participate in sports and/or cultural activities, such as music lessons, gym membership, or football club membership.

Starting March 1, 2022, the municipality will also join Sam & Overijssel . Alderman Trijn Jongman: "It includes all sorts of programs designed to give children the opportunity to participate in activities. Think of sports, dance, theater, swimming lessons, and even reimbursements for school costs. With Sam & Overijssel, we'll soon have a single point of contact for all these programs. That's very clear."

More personalized assistance and support.
A new tool within the minimum income policy is the Customized Budget . Alderman Trijn Jongman: "You can think of it as an emergency fund that you can't apply for, but which our consultants can use as a one-time reimbursement for essential expenses to prevent someone from experiencing serious financial hardship. They assess the need for each individual situation and can thus offer truly customized solutions."

Giving residents the opportunity to participate.
The updated minimum income policy aims to prevent financial worries among residents. For example, there is more scope for people with limited financial means to receive a waiver of municipal taxes. Financial regulations for healthcare costs have also been expanded. In addition to collective health insurance, starting next year, residents with a low income can also receive reimbursement for supplementary health insurance of their choice.

Alderman Trijn Jongman: "All in all, I think the updated minimum income policy aligns well with what we want: to give everyone the opportunity to participate in society. If that's not possible for financial reasons, we want to offer the necessary help and support. We provide that safety net."
