If annoyances or disagreements between you and your neighbors are escalating and it's difficult to have a conversation, the neighborhood mediators at Sociaal Werk De Kop are happy to help you and your neighbors. Our impartial mediators will work with you and your neighbors to explore the possibilities for a good solution. 

Neighbourhood mediation can be used in cases of nuisance, disputes or a bad relationship with your neighbours.

 

Who are our neighborhood mediators?

Our neighborhood mediators are volunteers specially trained in conflict resolution. They are independent, good listeners, and bound by confidentiality. They listen to both sides of the story and don't take sides. They help you and your neighbors find a solution.

 

Want to use neighborhood mediation?

Please contact us to explain your situation. We will assess whether your situation is eligible for neighborhood mediation. If so, a mediator will visit your home to hear your story. We will then meet with your neighbors to hear the other side of the story. If you both want to discuss the matter together, we will arrange and facilitate a meeting at a neutral location. The mediators will ensure the meeting runs smoothly and that you make clear agreements. We will put these agreements in writing so you both know what each other expects. After a few weeks, we will contact you to discuss how things are going. If necessary, we will reschedule the meeting.

 

Who can use neighborhood mediation?

Any resident of the municipality of Steenwijkerland who wants to resolve a conflict with their neighbors or neighbors can engage in neighborhood mediation. Agencies such as housing associations, the police, or the municipality of Steenwijkerland can also contact us or refer residents.
