Report Disturbance

(Wetland Wonen has the following text on its website www.wetlandwonen regarding reporting nuisance)

It's important to feel at home and safe in your home. That's why it's good to be considerate of each other. Do you hear your neighbors occasionally? That's normal; these are common sounds. Living close to each other can lead to tensions and irritations. For example, about parking spaces in front of the house, weeds on the sidewalk, dogs barking, trash in the garden, or the volume of music.

Below you can read what you can do to stop this nuisance.
Before reporting the nuisance to us, you must complete these steps.
Is the person causing the nuisance not one of our tenants? Or is the cause external? Then, unfortunately, we cannot take action. In that case, you can follow steps 1, 2, and 3. If you continue to experience nuisance afterward, you can report it to the municipality.

Step 1

Talk to your neighbor

Your neighbors may be unaware of the nuisance. A good conversation can resolve a lot of frustration. Therefore, always talk to the person causing the nuisance first. Then try to make agreements together.

Want to talk to your neighbors but aren't sure how? Here are some tips:

  • Make an appointment and take your time;
  • Provide clear examples of the nuisance you experience;
  • Think about a solution yourself and discuss it;
  • Stay calm and make clear agreements with each other.

Step 2

Ask for help from neighborhood mediation

Have you spoken with your neighbor about the nuisance you're experiencing, but can't resolve the problem together? Then seek help from a neighborhood mediator.

(Editors: Step 2 of the Wetland Wonen website now redirects you to the website of Neighborhood Mediation Steenwijkerland, Zwartewaterland, and Zwolle. We will include a section in this newsletter about Neighborhood Mediation Steenwijkerland and Zwartewaterland.)

Step 3

Write down the nuisance

It's important that you have sufficient examples of the nuisance. Keep track of when you experience the nuisance, how long it lasts, and how severe it is. This way, you can build a file. We need this to take action.
In the case of noise pollution, it's also wise to call the police.

You can do this by calling 0900-8844. Ask the police to address the nuisance and also to take a note. This will help you create a file.

Step 4

Report the nuisance to us or the municipality

Does talking to your neighbors not help?

And if neighborhood mediation can't resolve the issue, you can report the nuisance to us. If the person causing the nuisance isn't a tenant of ours, or if the cause is external, unfortunately, we can't take action. In that case, you can report your problem to the municipality.

It's important that you explain as clearly as possible:

  • what kind of nuisance it concerns;
  • how often it happens and how long it lasts;
  • what you did yourself to solve it.
